COOKE-McCLELLAND DRAMA

There was an unbelieveable finish to the 2011 season at the Cooke-McClelland 8k, as the top three open teams finished within two points of each other. Haileybury won by the narrowest of margins to snare the division 1 premiership. Old Xaverians had another strong year, winning division 2 and remaining unbeaten in the women's competition.

ATHLETE GRANTS

A successful first year of operation has allowed the Graham Wise Athletes Scholarship Fund to make grants to four more athletes. Congratulations to Anthony Aloisio (SK), Abi Bayley (OX), Tessa Craig (OH) and Gerard Robb (OS), who all satisfied the criteria for financial assistance from the Fund by reason of their exceptional achievements this season.

The annual raffle at the APSOC dinner raised around $850 for the Fund.

BERWICK OVERAGE BONANZA

Overage athletes dominated the fastest times list at the Berwick Hare & Hounds, with six M40 runners, led by Rob Schwerkolt (OS), in the top eleven placings. M60 athletes Stuart Pettigrew (SK) and Tony Correll (OH), took the first two places in the handicap competition. Fortunately, rising young star, Georgina Beech (OH), prevented a clean sweep by the old people by recording the fastest women's time.

CHURCHILL CHAMPIONS

Nicole Matthews (OC) was the first runner across the line at Churchill Park to win the 12k handicap event. David Nickels (OH) finished close behind to win the 6k handicap.

President Andrew Scott (OH) and Mark De Luca (SK) were the quickest men, while Anna Thompson (OW) and Robyn Millard (OH) were the quickest women.
