RED AND BLACK RULES

Gilwell Park was very green, but it was red and black all the way as Old Xavs continued their winning ways in the Hooley Relay. Their domination of the event was most pronounced in the women's results, where OX teams took three of the first four placings. It was more competitive in the open race, where Old Scotch made it a much closer contest.

But the fastest times were recorded by runners from two other clubs - Dane Verwey (OH) for the men and Anna Thompson (OW) for the women.

SLIP SLIDIN' AWAY

It was back to some good old fashioned cross country running in the Berwick Hare & Hounds after recent heavy rain made the off road sections of the course very wet and slippery. But the conditions did not faze either handicap winner Tanja Down (OB) or fastest time winners Pete Simm (OS) and Anna Thompson (OW). Pete and Anna have only just returned to racing in the APSOC competition, yet both could still mount serious challenges in the open age Athlete of the Year awards.

Meanwhile in drier conditions on the Gold Coast, two more APSOC athletes have recorded fine marathon performances. Ant Rickards (OW) ran 2:33.13 and Liam Magee (OS) 2:36.30, with both finishing in the top 10 Australian finishers.

IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR

The Schofield family had a good day at St Kevin's, with father and daughter, Greg and Alice (both OW), being the handicap winner and fastest woman respectively in the Lodge 16k. Nick O'Neill (SK) won the 8k handicap on his home ground.

Anna Thompson (OW) made a triumphant return to APSOC competition by running the fastest female time in the 8k, while Brad Johnson (OX) was the quickest male over the same distance. Chris Bridge (SK) made it back to back fastest times in the 16k.

UP AROUND THE BEND

Dane Verwey (OH) and Abi Bayley (OX) took advantage of ideal running conditions on the Queen's Birthday weekend to record the fastest times in the McPhail 8 km around the Yarra Bend trails. OC's Peter Pang was victorious in the sealed handicap section of the event.
